Winter is Here!

January has certainly reminded us we are in the midst of winter.  Sleet and snow and ice…oh my!  Please make sure any pertinent numbers are entered into the Honeywell Alert System for your family.  We depend on it for announcing school delays and closings.  I ask that all of the Lower School families please remember any time we have a delayed opening there is NO early care available for students.  There were several students found unattended in the school library on Tuesday morning after being dropped off by their parents.  If we have a 2-hour delayed opening, students should not be dropped off at school prior to 10:00, as there will not be anyone here to supervise them.  Thank you for your assistance in making sure students are supervised at all times for their safety.

The book fair is in full swing.  The Oakwood Room is set up and students will begin visiting the book fair starting Thursday.  Please don’t forget to attend International Family Night on Friday.  It is from 6:00-9:00 and the book fair will be open for purchases during that time, as well.  I look forward to seeing you there!

Next week you will be receiving your first set of progress reports from the specialist teachers.  We wait until January for these reports, as the specialists do not see the students everyday and we want to give them an appropriate amount of time to assess the students.  If you have questions about the reports please contact the specialist teachers.  If you have a student in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade, you will also be receiving your child’s ERB testing results with the specialist progress reports.  I will be hosting a brief ERB presentation on Tuesday, February 1st in the Oakwood Room at 8:30 a.m.  It will just be a general ERB testing overview with someone helpful hints for understanding your child’s score report and how we use the results at school.  If you have specific questions about your child’s report, I encourage you to set up a meeting with me, and I will be happy to answer specific questions about your child’s testing report at that time.

Last week was the delightful first grade publishing party.  It was nice to see so many people turn out to support the first grade students in their initial publishing adventure.  The students created wonderful books and were quite proud to share them.  I really enjoyed their videotaped promos for the books of their classmates.  Here are a few pictures from Mrs. Jacobson’s class during the publishing party.

This week the Kindergarten students joined the rest of the Lower School for lunch.  It is great to have them with us in the AP Room each day and they are really enjoying it.  It is amazing to see how grown up they have become during the 1st half of Kindergarten.  Here are some pictures from their second day of lunch!
